Anakie Football Club has received publicity in one of the most unlikely of avenues: a music video.

Club president Heath Meanhennet was approached by emerging punk band Tommy Dynamite & The Explosions about shooting their latest music video at the club. The production was released with the band’s new single ‘Ego’, showing a team of Roos youngsters coming from behind to defeat the ‘Tommy Dynamite & The Explosions’ side.

That comeback after being 60-1 down at halftime was brought about by a passionate address from a few of the players, with the clip finishing with them belting out the Anakie song with gusto.

The video shows the oval, old-fashioned scoreboard and clubrooms of the GDFL club.

“(They) wanted a country club atmosphere and wondered if we could supply any juniors for the clip,” Menhennet said.

“I just made sure he wasn’t a satanic cult band or anything like that that may be untoward and no worries,” he added with a laugh.

“Had a number of junior girls and boys involved which was fantastic and certainly captured the club, great time capsule piece and certainly no doubt these kids will be bombarded with this video at their 21st in years to come.

“We normally promote our club within the league and within the football community in Geelong and to promote it on a music level through YouTube and these guys, we are certainly going to reach a lot more audience than we normally do, which I think captures Anakie in a really good light.”
